Citizen Science Communication Specialist- CROPS EU Project

As part of the newly funded EU-Horizon Project CROPS, our team is looking for a communication specialist to join the upscaling of citizen science projects in Europe for the next three years. If you have expertise in social media management, copywriting, communication strategies, a curious nature interested in research and a passion for community-led initiatives, this might be for you!

The CROPS (Curating, Replicating, Orchestrating, and Propagating Citizen Science across Europe) project aspires to inform and evolve the EU Research & Innovation system so that it can adequately support the transition of citizen science from small-scale to a Europe-wide level, moving it towards a modern, open-science approach. Inside the project, and alongside the work of other 5 partners throughout Europe, OutBe will be in charge of curating the communication materials; develop of communication strategies for upscaling citizen science projects; establishing societal coalitions, to fully realise the benefits of CS to society and identify potential 'CS champions' in public arenas and decision-making capacities. Inside the team dedicated to the project, we are looking for a figure expert in communication to development and deploy of several communication, dissemination and research elements, including the following tasks:

(i) coordinate alongside an expert graphic designer the project visual identity, comprising a project logo, brand book guidelines and templates for presentations and deliverables;

(ii) manage social media and networking accounts, from which images and a set of appropriate hashtags from engagement activities and resources developed by CROPS will be published (these hashtags will provide an avenue for citizen science projects and other interested stakeholders and actors, that use CROPS resources and guidance, to discuss topics relevant to the project and provide feedback which can be collected as part of an evaluation);

(iii) curate and manage the dissemination of blogs, articles and press releases which will be created around key project milestones and which can be shared with other networks to disseminate the project results widely;

(iv) create a catalogue of design protocols and strategies regarding user-centred approaches,

communication strategies, stakeholder engagement and training, following an in depth research with data collection based on literature review, questionnaires and results from IMPETUS, ACTION, MICS, EU-CitizenScience and WeObserve projects (modern communication strategies used in similar areas of research and beyond will also be taken into account, in order to develop a lean, popular and clear communication to make citizen science more understood, accepted and utilised across Europe and across sectors);

(iv) curate a sections of the CROPS website highlighting citizen science champions through a biography, their experiences and the potential of upscaling citizen science.

Qualifications

· Work experience in either communication, social media management, copywriting, journalism, content creation, or such;

· Strong creative mindset with an attitude towards project management;

· Excellent written and spoken English (the job will be carried out in English);

· Skills in graphic design, video editing and other creative studios;

· Ability to create communication strategies following the needs of project’s objective, EU guidelines and partners needs;

· Curious attitude and a research drive, with preferably data analysis experience on Excel or such;

· Strong ability to work independently on the basis of project objectives, managing remote working time accordingly with flexibility to participate in project meetings online and participate in compulsory in person meetings and conferences once-twice a year in Europe;

· Preferrable (but not mandatory) previous experience in EU Project dissemination;

· Passion for nature conservation, sustainability and community-led initiatives, with a strong will to internationalise and de-institutionalise local research projects to a European level;

Multitasking attitude and experience working in small teams.

Position is on a remote basis and requires an availability of flexible 1-2 days per week for 35 months, starting from February 1st 2024. More information on budget and modalities will be shared upon interview.
